Six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo is one of the most respected names in the world of golf with more than 40 tournament victories at some of the most revered golfing destinations in the world.
What set Sir Nick Faldo apart from the other great players of his generation was his innate ability to craft even the most challenging of golf shots and his instinctive appreciation for the varying demands of any given course. By applying these very same principles to the golf course design process, Sir Nick Faldo has built up a reputation as one of the world’s most talented player-designers.
The Fortress course at Louisbourg Resort Golf &; Spa is the company’s first project in the Canadian Atlantic Provinces. Faldo’s design will make the very most of the site’s varied topography, allowing for a round of golf that will be as aesthetically pleasing as it is strategically challenging. Once completed, visitors to the Fortress can expect as demanding and delightful a golfing experience as any other that bears the Faldo name.

Course designer Sir Nick Faldo and his design team already have visited the resort many times to advise on course layout and design strategies and completed the design of the championship course; he will also be on site several times during the construction of the courses.

The centrepiece of the all-year-round leisure and recreational facilities will be the 18-hole championship golf course – The Fortress – designed by Sir Nick Faldo. The front nine will play around spectacular marshland in a figure 8; an emphasis will be placed on the strategic positioning of each shot. Holes 4 and 5 both have greens that can be approached with shots over Grand Lake itself.
The back nine is more densely forested with gently rolling hills and other natural features that will enhance the distinctive character of the course. The 17th, a short par 4, can be played as a traditional par 4 or alternatively can be taken on by a 200 metre tee shot directly over Grand Lake. The 18th, a long par 5, offers birdie opportunities but could also ruin your card with the approach shot over water.
The championship course will be complemented by the 18-hole par 3 course that will also be created by the award-winning Faldo Design group.
